The “Avenue des Champs Elysees” runs to the location of the ARCH OF TRIUMPH. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1860 commissioned by the Emperor Napoleon. The work was taken over by Jean-Nicolas Huyot after Chalgrin died.
The triumphal arch honor’s those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic wars. The relieves on the outside represent important moments of the French Revolution. In the inside the names of battles and military leaders are engraved and unknown soldiers from World Was I have their tomb underneath.
